One day my granddaughter and I were looking for a project to do together. I suggested that we make a book out of paper. I asked her what the title should be. Her response was "let's make different kinds of hearts." As we started making the book, we came up with several different patterns for the hearts. The Holy Spirit began dealing with me about "different kinds of hearts”. He spoke and said, “Tell my people that we should understand when dealing with others, we are dealing with different kinds of hearts.” As we learn to deal with different hearts, there are a few things God wants us to remember:
1. We must recognize that "out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks" (Matthew 12:34). As such, the things that come out of our mouths, and out of the mouths of others, are a direct reflection of what has been ruminating in our hearts.
2. We have to understand that what is on our heart and what comes out of our mouths have real consequences. "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart and they defile the man" (Matthew 15:18).
3. We are all on the journey to having "a heart like Christ", but heart transformation is an ongoing process and is still taking place within ourselves and within others.
Putting this all together, the next time you have an encounter with someone, remember Matthew 12:34 and Matthew 15:18. While we are all on this journey to having clean and perfect hearts, we must remember that some things that come out of our mouths and out of the mouths of others, might not be quite right. This is because we are still working on having the right kind of heart. But with our prayers and loving kindness we can all help each other to have the perfect heart which was found in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
