Catching A Glimpse of God: A Word of ENCOURAGEMENT For May 8, 2024

(Submitted by one of the sisters last year)

"The first time we catch a glimpse of God, we see an artist sculpting the world with His words. In seven days, a masterpiece is finished. Then God declares, "It is very good." We are part of that creation, made in His image-and because of that, part of us is inherently creative as well.

You may be shaking your head. "Not me. I'm not creative.”

We often define creativity narrowly. We think of it in terms of words on a page or paint on a canvas. But creativity is essentially bringing something into existence that wasn't there before.

God is the ultimate Creator because only He can make something out of nothing. But He allows each of us to share in a little of His creativity as well.

Whitney Hopler explores this truth in A Creative Life: God's Design for You…

The secular view of creativity portrays this God-given gift as a special talent reserved only for people who are artistic, or for children who can afford to have fun before they're shackled by the practical demands of life as adults.

But God, the master Creator and source of all creativity, has a far more holistic view. He has created you in His image and will enable you to participate in His creativity.

He wants you to live creatively at all times and in all situations, so your life can become the masterpiece He intends it to be.

Your version of creativity may show up in the kitchen when you make delicious meals. It might be revealed in the way you decorate your house. Or it could find expression in your ability to talk to anyone. When God made you, He built creativity into your DNA in some way.

We tend to think of God the Father as the Creator, but John tells us that Christ had an essential role.

"He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made" (John 1:2-3).

Christ is the key to our creativity. When we give our lives to Him, "we have the mind of Christ" (1 Cor. 2:16).

That means we have access to endless innovation and creativity.

The God who made the world lives within us.

Just as He often shows His love through us, He also shows His creativity.

The world has tried to tell us that creativity belongs only to certain people or professions. But God makes it clear that true creativity belongs to Him.

He chooses to display it through each of us in ways that are surprising, unique, and endless. We are His pages, canvases, and melodies.

In the beginning God created…and He still does through us."

PRAYER

Lord, You are the Creator of everything, and You live within me. Please help me display Your creativity in the unique ways You intended when You made me.

Thank You for giving me the ability to:

REMEMBER

You are paint on God's canvas.

Notes in His song.

Words on His page.

Created by Him and then blessed to create with Him.

In your everyday life, your work, your relationships, you bring Him

to the world in new ways.

And when you do, this can be again.

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good."
